A MAKESHIFT Essex Pirates side were beaten 78-59 by Great Britain under-20s at the Southend Leisure and Tennis Centre on Saturday night.

Pirates led 23-17 at the end of the first quarter and 36-28 at half-time.

But Britain hit back to be 53-48 in front at the end of the third quarter before extending their advantage late on. Sam Toluwase led the scoring for Pirates with 25 points.
